My name is Samantha Weer and I am originally from Bloomington- Normal Illinois. I live there with my mom, dad and little sister. I was involved with competitive softball from second grade to my senior year. I loved Illinois and everything that was offered to me there. It’s a very suburban town and I knew that one day I wanted to leave and explore the United States. 

So when it came to picking a college I decided I wanted to look at the East Coast because my dad also went to school on the East Coast. Choosing a school was difficult because most big name schools were very expensive and I did not want to graduate with a lot of student debt. I first found Old Dominion just by browsing East Coast somewhat urban schools online. My dad said he has heard of that school and we should check it out. After taking a tour of the campus my junior year and getting a good academic scholarship from the school I decided this would be the best choice for my future.

I am very happy that I choose Old Dominion because I have met friends here that are already very important to me. My classes so far have been enjoyable and they have taught me a lot. I have also enjoyed social events such as going to soccer, field hockey and football games. Sometimes it is difficult to be so far away from family and I have had some traveling issues going back and forth, but I think it is worth it.
